Hi! my name is Charly Hamblyn,
– and I have been in love with music my whole life.
It started when I was a tiny tot and my brothers and sisters and I would watch the few musicals we had on VHS back to back.
Whether it was Doris Day atop of the Deadwood Stage or Jane Powell taking care of “Seven Brothers” you can bet we were singing.
We would sit our parents down to act out our favourite musicals around the living room, one in particular I remember pushing my cousin off of the “stage” because I was adamant that “I wanted to be Sandy”! Those years carved my life out. I loved how music could make me feel and I was an addict.
Fast forward to my teens where I discovered pop music. I began to dive into music through the decades, the Swinging 60’s, the Pop Rock era, the Electronic 80’s, Funk, Groove, Country, Techno, I loved it all.
I spent hours flicking through old vinyls and cds in thrift shops, scouring every genre. But nothing got me like Soul music, that was where my heart was. The likes of Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye, Amy Winehouse, Etta James these were the types of singers that inspired me the most!
So when I turned 17 my family uprooted to Mallorca and I came into my own. I got my first job at The Plaza Cafe in a trio with another singer and a saxophone player, and did we have a laugh. Whether it was stag parties coming in dressed up in corsets and feather boas or making up ridiculous dance routines for our songs we were having a blast!
I learned so much those years, how to use my voice and have fun with an audience, and after time my confidence began to grow.
14 years on and I have had the pleasure of working all over the island in different settings like beach clubs, night clubs, restaurants, festivals, private yachts etc.
I’ve sang for many weddings, birthdays, and corporate events, and played as a resident singer in venues such as Nikki Beach Mallorca, The Plaza Cafe, Grande Follies, and also as the lead singer for Sintillate Mallorca, a company that organises events across the globe!
I also had the opportunity to sing across all the Balearic Islands, Switzerland, Germany and most recently I was invited to sing at a week long event for Coffee and Jazz in Saudi Arabia where I sang for thousands of people including the Italian, French, and Egyptian consulates.
When I’m not working people can normally find me in a cafe somewhere, drinking coffee with my scruffy dogs!
I spend my days in Mallorca painting, cooking, gardening, hiking, spending time with family, and exploring the hidden gems of this beautiful island…
I love playing soul and funk, whether it's for a laid-back atmosphere or a more lively crowd, depending on the venue. I am always looking to expand my workplace and examine new opportunities.
